Ken Money, Canadian Space Agency astronaut It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we have learned that former Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut Ken Money has passed away. Dr. Ken Money was one of the original six Canadian astronauts selected in December 1983. He was designated alternate payload specialist for the first International Microgravity Laboratory mission, Space Shuttle Discovery flight STS-42, that flew in January 1992. Dr. Money was a scientist, physiologist, pilot, professor and Olympic athlete. He made substantial contributions to the fields of vestibular physiology and aviation medicine. From his friend and astronaut colleague Steve MacLean: "Ken was arguably the best qualified of any of us to fly in space. And that came with a sense of humour that instantly elevated all our spirits, all the time. The quality of his research was untouchable – and yet he himself was engaging, humble, but equally impressive. Canada has lost a son they didn't know they had." Our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones.
